The benefits of the new system outweigh any negatives, and implementing an in-mission autosave system probably would have been more trouble than it was worth.įrankly, though, if the knowledge that you can do something ruins the game that much for you, maybe you should have some personal accountability and just not do it? If that doesn't help, remember that the only failures this would affect are bad loadouts and Out to Lunch rushes. I still believe that, if it's workable, subtle autosaving during the mission would be the ideal solution to keeping the dev's original vision for the atmosphere of the game intact, while also preventing game crashes from ruining entire playthroughs, as Shiro reiterated.

Of course you could always choose to never play in that mode, if you don't trust the game to be stable enough to survive a full playthrough. But I do think that the change is ripe for giving players the additional option to play through the game the way it was originally intended, in a "No Going Back" type mode. However, I didn't in any way suggest completely reverting the change, because I do understand your points, and you shouldn't lose an entire playthrough because the game crashed or bugged out (especially if you have reason to believe the game has issues with that). But an alteration like this changes the feel & tension of the game for everyone, when you know if things go wrong in a mission, you can always simply quit back to the menu and replay it. You doing that doesn't really affect anyone else. This seems to run counter to what you guys were going for with the tension & permanent consequences in the game.I mean, if you want to "savescum", and that personally gives you the most enjoyment of the game, that's cool. But do you actually need to run the game in Ironman mode to be eligible for them? Or can you get them without being in Ironman mode also, just without & Darke I may not have emphasized it enough to be clear, but I'm not really concerned about the "community integrity" of achievements nearly as much as this: That way, people could play Ironman Mode without worrying that the game crashing on its own is going to end their entire playthrough, but they could still separately choose to play with the tension of knowing that every mistake they make can't be Ah I see, those two do say "with no deaths".

Btw, I'm a bit surprised there's no Ironman-related achievement - or if there is, it isn't clear). "Survived the nebula with the 'No Going Back' restriction".

And there could be an achievement or something added, to this effect (ie. I think at the very least, if you are going to allow no-consequence quitting like that, there should be some new difficulty option/restriction added that, if activated, would revert your next game to operate the way it did before (similar to the way Ironman Mode is activated). But that may not be feasible, for whatever reason. That way if the game crashes, you can just resume from wherever it last autosaved within the mission. The ideal solution would probably be to have the game autosave progress during a mission, as long as it wasn't stuttering / pausing the game to save it all the time. This seems to run counter to what you guys were going for with the tension & permanent consequences in the game. If things aren't going well in a mission, you can just quit and do it over. Sure, dying because your game crashed would suck, but this would seem to very much lend itself to "gaming the system".

If you exit the game, return to the main menu or the game crashes while on board a ship you will be able to resume from just prior to boarding that ship.Haven't seen a thread on this yet, but I'm a bit torn by it. Quitting the game while on board a ship no longer kills your character.
